Julian Rijkhoff

Watch The Netherlands O15 and we were treated to a masterclass in forward play but a lad born in 2005. Right foot, left food, in the air, players in his own age group certainly can’t stop Julian Rijkhoff.

Julian started his football with FC Purmrend, a typical community football club, in the North of Amsterdam. He played in the summer tournaments and stood out and so was offered a spot on the Ajax F1, the Under 9s.

Straight away, at 8 year olds, Julian was a natural forward. He could play with his back to goal, turn and score. He was able to make explosive movements and be a match winner on his own even at the highest level in Europe.

I think he is right footed. But it’s hard to tell. He would normally crack a free kick or penalty in with his right foot but I’ve seen him score all sorts of goals with his left foot.

He has all the raw materials to be a very good forward, although Ajax provide a fantastic pathway to the first team, all the biggest clubs in Europe must be looking at signing Julian as soon as possible.

At 13 he scored his first goal for the 15s – he is that sort of player. I can see that he will swiftly move up to Jong Ajax and although there are many factors that can affect a players journey, I feel confident Julian can make it into the first team at Ajax.
